Cariboo-Chilcotin MLA Donna Barnett is congratulating a key local not-for-profit organization that applied successfully for recent EventHostBC funding.

The Ministry of Community, Sport and Cultural Development has approved funding for the following Cariboo-Chilcotin recipients:

South Cariboo Community Planning Council - $5,000 for 100 Mile House 50th Anniversary celebrations, which took place July 18-26, 2015.

Cariboo Chilcotin Conservation Society - $3,300 for Fraser Fest in Williams Lake, taking place September 8, 2015 in Boitanio Park.

“Events like this help us celebrate our community pride, with the added benefit of attracting visitors and boosting the local economy,” says Donna Barnett, MLA for Cariboo-Chilcotin. “Congratulations to this grant recipient, and thank you to all the organizers and volunteers who work hard behind the scenes to stage successful events.”

EventHostBC, launched May 8, 2015, is a one-time funding initiative intended to encourage and support community events that strengthen volunteer capacity for event hosting throughout the province.  A total budget of $250,000 was allocated and is being distributed equally throughout the province’s six tourism regions based on a first-come, first-served model.

Eligible non-profit organizations were invited to apply for up to $5,000 per event. Eligible events included those that were not already receiving provincial funding, would draw visitors to the community and those that were not projected to be profit-making.

This event aligns with the current development of the Government of British Columbia’s five-year hosting strategy – a commitment to supporting communities and organizations in their efforts to make B.C. the destination of choice for sport and cultural events.
