Two local organizations are sharing more than $64,000 in funding through the latest round of provincial gaming grants.

The Cariboo Chilcotin Gymnastics Association is receiving $34,500 to assist with gymnastics instruction. The Williams Lake Museum and Historical Society will be benefiting from $30,000 to support and develop arts, culture and history.

“This funding is part of our government’s commitment to supporting communities and organizations in their efforts to make B.C. the destination of choice for sport and cultural events,” said Cariboo North MLA Coralee Oakes. “These wonderful organizations in Williams Lake bring people in our community together and raise the awareness of living a well-balanced and healthy lifestyle”

“Investing in the arts helps support artistic talent in our communities,” said Cariboo-Chilcotin MLA Donna Barnett. “This funding will help local artists, athletes, groups and organizations continue to provide a wide range of activities that make the Cariboo region a renowned hub for arts and culture.”

The Community Gaming Grants to these two organizations were made possible through the Sports and Arts and Culture intake. Grants through this intake go towards programs that contribute to the quality of life in a community, including assisting the disadvantaged or distressed, promoting health, or enhancing opportunities for youth.

Every year, the provincial government approves $135 million in gaming grants that benefit over 5,000 local organizations that serve communities throughout British Columbia.
