MMBC Recycling Programs in Quesnel/PG in Sept 2014

Today - it was announced that MMBC (Multi-Materials BC) will commence curb-side recycling services on May 19th in many communities in BC.  Quesnel/Prince George will join the program in September 2014.  Read more from the Prince George Free Press here

Meanwhile - Quesnel Mayor Mary Sjostrom said this in response to MMBC's announcement:

"We welcome the service to Quesnel this fall as our residents have proven they embrace recycling. All improvements to the volume of material we recycle as a community improves our sustainability."

Also - Allen Langdon, Managing Director of MMBC, talked about the new recycling services coming to a local community near you starting on May 19th in an Op-Ed (Opinion-Editorial) in the Vancouver Sun today.  I am disappointed that he didn't take the opportunity to apologize to communities like Kamloops who played by the rules, got a deadline extension to sign a contract with MMBC and still was told that they will have to be on a 'waiting list' and hopefully they'll be allowed to come on board in 2015.  The Regional District of Central Kootenays (RDCK) is also in the same boat as Kamloops - read more here.

It is really unfortunate that there seems to be a double standard here -- one rule for Kamloops/RDCK and apparently one rule for all other communities in BC...
