The Government of Canada is investing $39,115 from the Airports Capital Assistance Program (ACAP) for the purchase of a runway condition reporting system which will provide timely, accurate and precise wireless reporting and recording of runway conditions.
To date through ACAP, the Quesnel Regional Airport has received more than $2.8 million in funding for seven safety projects, including today’s announcement. Projects included the installation of a runway approach lighting system, the purchase of a runway sweeper, and repairs to runway 13-31.
Since the program started, the Government of Canada has invested more than $609 million for 762 projects at 174 airports. Improvements included purchasing/replacing heavy airside mobile equipment; installing wildlife fencing; and rehabilitating runway pavements, airfield lighting and electrical systems.
Cariboo-PG Dick Harris on behalf of the Federal Minister of Transport - the Hon. Lisa Raitt stated:
“The Quesnel Regional Airport is a vital gateway for local residents, businesses, trade and tourism. This funding will enhance the safety of all those who use this airport, especially the communities and businesses in this region that rely on it.”
Quesnel Mayor Mary Sjostrom says:
“The City of Quesnel is pleased to see the purchase of a new runway condition reporting system at our regional airport through the Airports Capital Assistance Program which will provide a modernized reporting system.
