Just like in the City of Williams Lake almost a year ago now -- residents in the City of Prince George watched as their unionized CUPE City Staff went on the picket line for the first time in that City's history. I am pleased to see that both sides are not, so far, launching, deeply personal criticisms at each other but expressing 'regret' that the 1 day strike will have on the general public
Contrast that to Williams Lake's 1st ever civic strike where Mayor Kerry Cook, at one point, went into a verbal tirade in which she suggested that local IUOE workers were going on a personal vendetta against City of WL Administration/Council. I truly hope that the City of Prince George's civic labour dispute is able to be resolved without it turning into a 'war of words' that Williams Lake residents' saw here...

Also - if you may recall the IUOE, during their strike in Feb 2013 also had a "Porta Pottie" at WL City Hall with a sign on it which said "New Council Chambers". Some of the protesters told me that Mayor Cook was not pleased with this sign but thankfully that is long behind us…

Well it is evident that statement was not true according to your recent post "Labour relations board ruling forces city to reinstate worker" (page 3 of the Williams Lake Tribune Advisor, last Friday, December 13, 2013) "According to the ruling, on Feb. 3, 2013, the city put out a press release stating it had been served 72-hour-strike notice by the union and that it had paid out over $250,000 in overtime costs annually...Her report totalled $201,000 in overtime"
So who was putting out untruths, misleading statements and falsehoods?! It's clear the arbitrator saw through the city's manipulation of the facts and the real reason the employee was terminated.
I am embarrassed by and for Mayor Cook! Her entire term in office has raised some very serious concerns, especially with this most recent revelation, and the troubling rumors that have been circulating in the community over the past year or so.
I'm "embarrassed" by the stuff people will believe as fact when they have absolutely no clue. Just because the Union says so, or you see it on the internet, or in the paper, doesn't make it true.
My "facts" are just as good as your "facts".
