City of WL responds to Leaders' Moving Forward Cmte 'misinformation'

The City of Williams Lake would like to ensure the public has correct information about the Leaders Moving Forward group.

In late 2010, Mayor Kerry Cook brought together a group of dynamic community leaders with a common desire to work collaboratively on a range of issues and opportunities facing our community. Those leaders represent the forestry and mining industries, the Cariboo Regional District, School District 27, Thompson Rivers University, the RCMP, Chamber of Commerce, Interior Health, the Child Development Centre, Williams Lake Employment Services, the Ministerial Association, and others.

The group was originally formed to ensure the city was prepared for the federal government’s pending decision on whether to approve the original Prosperity mine proposal. Both approval or rejection would have implications for Williams Lake that needed to be anticipated.

Since then, the group has met regularly to exchange information, provide advice and identify opportunities for collaboration and strategic partnerships. The group discusses economic and social issues facing the city, including crime, job and training opportunities, industry capital upgrades, timber supply, and education.

Leaders Moving Forward meets roughly once a month for an early breakfast to accommodate more than a dozen members and their schedules. Members of the group pay for breakfast on a rotating basis.

“Leaders Moving Forward is a group of dedicated community leaders passionate about making Williams Lake an even better place to live and work,” says Williams Lake Mayor Kerry Cook. “I strongly believe it’s by working together that we accomplish great things for the entire community.”

Not that this committee is a bad thing but wasn't the whole issue with Mr. Rathors questioning that the city was paying for the meals? Now the city is stating that members take turns paying. As far as I'm aware the city is even trying to turn this into an official committee to qualify for city paid meals. Whatever it is I don't think most really care but how about just telling us the truth.
