Frontier of Life?

As a result of this past Tuesday's "Republic of Life" fiasco - CBC Kamloops talks to two TRU Marketing Professors in Kamloops and asks -- Should Williams Lake take the brand of "Frontier of Life"? A mix of old and new which could define Williams Lake.  Listen to the interview here

Meanwhile - former Williams Lake City Councillor John Dell wrote this on Facebook, in regard to the place branding situation:

1) There is no doubt in my mind that the skills and the capacity exist in Williams Lake to provide these marketing services. Perhaps what is lacking is confidence in our own abilities.

2) Business is an eight letter word, ranks up there with Lake is a four letter word. Someone found it amusing. One of many options that our market savvy council can choose from?

3) Here is a site discussing ongoing place branding http://www.placebrand.ca/why-placebrands-fail

4) Generally speaking, to attract people we should remember that young families move because of job or educational opportunities, Seniors will move to climate, amenities and health services. Small business and corporate retailers move because of consumer market opportunities, Large industrial corporations move because of resource proximity. Manufacturers because of proximity to markets or to the resource. Place branding will have little impact on the people making those decisions.

I really appreciate this information! Now hopefully the powers that be will be receptive to the wisdom that was shared. I find it very interesting that the website he shared was in fact from the Taiji Brand Group! Now it seems to me that they talk the talk but don't walk the walk.
