Tolko Industries Creekside mill is officially closed.
Mark Everard is site manager for Tolko in Williams Lake who says the agreement with the United Steelworkers also includes a severance for the 167 affected workers.
He says the decision to close was hard to make but necessary considering US housing starts are still less than half of what they were before the recession.
Everard says operations at Tolko’s Lakeview and Soda Creek mills will not be affected. The agreement between Tolko and the Steelworkers is tentative and will be subject to a vote by the Steelworkers Executive Board sometime today.
The mill closed back in February, 2009.
