City of PG rescinds State of Local Emergency

Courtesy of the City of Prince George:

The Fraser River at South Fort George has receded and the current river level of 8.5 metres is expected to hold steady over the next two weeks. The BC River Forecast Centre has lifted its Flood Warning and at 1 p.m. today, the City of Prince George rescinded the Declaration of State of Local Emergency, and replaced the evacuation orders issued to 17 residences on the east side of Farrell Street with evacuation alert notices.

Evacuation alert notifications previously distributed will also remain in place.

Inspections of residences impacted by the flood were undertaken yesterday and all were deemed safe. Accordingly, the City’s Evacuation Support Program has closed its Reception Centre at City Hall and residents can return to their homes.

The BC River Forecast Centre is recommending continued vigilance given the snow pack remaining at upper elevations. Consequently, the temporary diking system (gabion baskets) on Farrell Street will remain in place for two weeks while the Emergency Operations
Centre continues to monitor river levels.

The Emergency Operations Centre will remain activated at level one and further updates will be provided as required.
