BREAKING NEWS - BC Liberals invoke closure on Bill 22

By a vote of 43-32, the BC Liberals have invoked closure on Bill 22 as follows:

Monday - House votes on 'reasoned amendment' to 2nd Reading and 2nd Reading of Bill 22 by 6:15pm today

Thursday - House votes on remaining stages of Bill 22 - Education Improvement Act at 4:45pm

The BC Liberals invoked a not-often used clause of the Standing Orders of the BC Legislature to invoke closure on Bill 22 as follows:

Standing Order 81.1

(2) A Minister of the Crown who from his or her place in the House, has stated that an agreement could not be reached under the provisions of section (1) of this Standing Order in respect of proceedings at one or more stages of a public bill, may propose without notice a motion for the purpose of allotting a specified number of days or hours for the consideration and disposal of proceedings at one or more stages of a public bill. The motion shall be decided forthwith, without debate or amendment. Any proceedings interrupted pursuant to this section of this Standing Order shall be deemed adjourned.

Actual Motion by Rich Coleman - Closure on Bill 22:

Pursuant to Standing Order 81.1 (2), all proceedings, relating to second reading of Bill (No. 22) intituled the Education Improvement Act shall be completed and disposed of on or before Monday, March 12, 2012, at 6:15 p.m. At 6:15 p.m. on the date mentioned, the Speaker shall forthwith put all necessary questions for the completion of second reading stage of the said bill without amendment or debate. Any divisions called on the second reading, or a second reading amendment, of the said bill may be taken in accordance with Standing Order 16.


Further, that pursuant to Standing Order 81.1 (2), on or before Thursday, March 15, 2012, at 5:00 p.m. all remaining proceedings relating to Bill (No. 22) shall be completed and disposed of. At 4:45 p.m. on March 15, 2012, the Speaker and the Chair of the Committee of the Whole will forthwith put all necessary questions for the disposal of all remaining stages of the said bill without amendment or debate, and divisions called on any section of Bill (No. 22) shall be taken in accordance with Practice Recommendation No. 1. Any division called on the third reading of the said bill may be taken in accordance with Standing Order 16. Proceedings under this motion shall not be subject to the provisions of Standing Order 81, or the Standing or Sessional Orders relating to times and days of the sitting of the House.

Call an election so the Liberals can get wiped off the map.

Agreed. A group of biggest two faced liars!
There should be a "waste of taxpayers dollars
bill". It should be retroactive to 2008 because
as the BC liberals said - there's not enough
money so we as taxpayers should be able
to invoke a bill letting me know we can't
afford their 30% extra salaries. Not like
they've done alot of sitting in parliament
in the last three years.
