Link between Health and Local Recreation

In a new blog post - Cariboo Regional District Area 'B' Director Heloise Dixon-Warren looks at the idea of a link of having healthy communities through local government policy and overall public health

She does raise a good point - increasingly, there is evidence that those who lead a healthy lifestyle (and yes, local government can assist in that regard with affordable recreation opportunities) do cost the provincial health system less

Invest now or pay later! People love to poo-poo government subsidized recreation but it is an essential part of a healthy lifestyle and well worth the investment we taxpayers put into it.

Why is it always the governments (taxpayers) responsibility to do things for us? Perhaps people themselves have to look at living healthier instead of government (or anyone) doing it for them. Time and time again I see people getting into their cars to drive 2 blocks. Whats wrong with taking the stairs instead of the elevator or walking to work. Try it you might like it and it doesn't cost anyone anything. We can spend a ton of money on subsidizing recreation but money should be spent on education first to change bad habits. It is our body and our responsibility to keep it healthy and I don't need a gym or government for that.
