At its regular meeting Tuesday evening, Council approved entering into a partnership agreement with the Williams Lake Indian Band to provide transit service to Sugar Cane.

The Agreement will take effect on November 1, 2011, with the Williams Lake Indian Band paying $2,149.66 monthly for the service, to total $25,796 annually. The funding is for 3 return trips per day (10:30 a.m, 12:30 p.m., 2:30 p.m.), Tuesday to Friday, between the City Transit Exchange and Williams Lake Indian Band with stops at the Band Office and Chief William Gas Bar.

“Following discontinuation of the Cariboo Regional District trial Transit service to 150 Mile House and Sugar Cane earlier this year, the Williams Lake Indian Band expressed an interest in obtaining transit service for their community,” says Chief Administrative Officer Brian Carruthers. “We’re pleased to be able to provide this service at no cost to the City.”

“The Williams Lake Indian Band is pleased to be entering into a partnership agreement with the City of Williams Lake for transit service,” says Band Administrator Marg Shelley. “We are very happy to have the service back in our community as our members were utilizing transit from Sugar Cane to Williams Lake on a regular basis before it was discontinued.”
