Quesnel Air Quality Roundtable seeks new Chair

The Quesnel Air Quality Roundtable is seeking new leadership, as long-time chairperson Dora McMillan has retired to allow, in her words, someone with new blood and fresh ideas to come forward.

"I have greatly enjoyed my time working with such a diverse and driven group of volunteers," said McMillan. "As the community strives to reach a new series of goals, I felt it was an opportunity for a new champion to emerge. I plan to remain involved and to help the new chairperson in the role."

The new chair will be responsible for leading the voluntary, multi-stakeholder organization in its quest to see the community reach established air quality goals by 2016. These goals include: continuing to see air quality improvement; educating the public regarding industry's efforts; and educating the public regarding what citizens can do to help.

The chair is also the primary public figure of the organization in regards to community relations, who can network with all levels of the community. As the meeting facilitator, the new chair sets the agendas, follows proper protocol and maintains neutrality. Anyone interested in being involved should contact Tracy Bond from the Baker Creek Enhancement Society at 250-992-5833.

Quesnel has seen a general downward trend in the levels of fine particulate matter in the air over the last several years. Particulate is measured at three monitoring sites: Quesnel Junior School; Correlieu Secondary School; and Maple Drive School.

The Air Quality Roundtable website - www.quesnelairshed.org - provides information about the Roundtable, the planning process and updated reports from each stakeholder outlining progress made.

The Quesnel Air Quality Roundtable is a community-driven initiative that has developed an improvement plan for air quality in Quesnel. Stakeholders include government (local and provincial), industry, businesses and the public at large.
