Mid-Week News - May 18th edition

In Quesnel:

Serious questions are being raised by both CRD Area 'B' Director Roberta Faust and Cariboo-North MLA Bob Simpson after it was revealed that the homes near the Cottonwood River could have been spared being destroyed if Ottawa had been more flexible on its' concerns around preventative work for homes situated near the Cottonwood River - see here and see CTV-BC News Video here

Also - CRD Chair Al Richmond has made mention on The Rush (local radio) that residents' affected by the Cottonwood River rising waters' will soon have a meeting with the appropriate officials to discuss the situation and how to move forward

Editor's Note - this is truly shameful and the Department of Fisheries & Oceans should be embarrassed for "bureaucracy run amuk".  As someone said to me - it is a sad day when residents' offer up their own money for a project and Ottawa still says no and there's no discussion on it.  Better the preventative work be done with a small chance of fish habitat being touched, rather than allowing the good chance  that the homes come into the Cottonwood River and definitely ruining the fish habitat in the Cottonwood River
