Over at CivicInfoBC - a website for all things local government, they advise that all local governments must have their Audited Financial Statements for the previous year submitted to Victoria (Inspector of Muncipalities) not later than Friday, May 13th, in accordance with Sections 167(4) of the Community Charter and Section 814(3) of the Local Government Act
So far - The City of Quesnel, the Districts of 100 Mile House/Wells and the Cariboo Regional District have received and Quesnel, Wells, and the CRD Board have adopted last year's (2010) financial statements and 100 Mile, Quesnel, Wells and the Cariboo Regional District are in a position to submit their 2010 Audited Financial Statements per the requirements of the Community Charter/Local Government Act
Questions - WL Council has not received, as of this writing, the 2010 Audited Financial Statements so has Williams Lake City Staff asked for an extension to the deadline of May 13th? If not, why not? And how would the Inspector of Muncipalities respond to such a request for filing the 2010 Audited Financial Statements late?

Interesting when in I believe it was 2009 that the financial report was sent to the provincial government before being given public reading. A huge contravention of the Community Charter. If my memory serves me correct this error was attributed to the new people at City Hall or something to that effect. Now here we are two years later and we are once again at the risk of contravening the Community Charter. Is staff going to meet with Council behind closed doors in order to receive the financial report. This isn't "play" this is serious business.
It seems that when it is to staff's and Councils benefit there is no problem quoting the Community Charter yet the absolute necessities of running the municipality's business is when things just are "forgotten", ignored or snuck through behinds the taxpayers' backs.
Another example of this was how a report asking for a higher per diem was made more of a priority then finishing a tourism report that would have met the final requirment for a grant that had been awarded to the City. Staff didn't even have the courtesy to inform UBCM that they would not be finishing the project..the grant was defaulted.
I will be really curious to see what happens here and if they did apply for an extension why...I would ask but it seems that noone is ever at City Hall anymore to ask. These things did not happen when Alberto Defeo was managing the City, too bad he lost the popularity contest with Mayor Cook.
