May or June 2011 Provincial Election...

Over at his website - Indepedent MLA Bob Simpson posted a new blog entry regarding all of the obvious and good-sense reasons why BC Premier Christy Clark could call a provincial general election by May or June of this year, rather than a by-election in Vancouver-Point Grey

Those reasons include:

* Catch BC NDP/BC Conservative Parties off-guard
* Not having to answer questions over the BC Rail deal of 2004 over the summer
* Not having to answer questions over state of provincial finances over the summer

See his blog post here

Bob does lay out some very good political tactics as to why Premier Clark would want to do this (have June provincial election) but given the residual anger over the HST at present - I believe she is proceeding cautiously, but if the poll numbers for the governing BC Liberals got better than 5% between them and the BC NDP, then I think she'd go for it.  But in any event - if she ignores the poll, it is to their best advantage to call the election before the BC Conservatives formally elect their Leader, John Cummins, both the end of May.  Otherwise, the BC Liberals risk allowing the BC Conservatives over the summer to build their profile with a new Leader and further risk encouraging "bubble" BC Liberals to join the BC Conservative Party as new policies from the BC Conservatives could lead to conservatives within the BC Liberal Party to switch loyalities to the new BC Conservative Party

What on earth is a "bubble" liberal???

The real small 'c' conservative are leaving the party for the btrues conservative party. What's left of the Liberals is a party that will be duking it out with the NDP who want to move into Liberal territory.

That's why my own blog story said there might as well just be a combined party called the Liberal Democrats.

However, given the BC Liberal Party disregard, and lack of respect, for the voters, I agree with Steven that Christy Clark is likely to call and early election.

No big surprise there though, is there?
