BC Conservatives comment on new Christy Clark government

After starting with several jokes, Lieutenant Governor Steven Point administered the
oath of office to the provinces 35th premier.  Now British Columbians are asking the fate of
several major issues of concerns, and how they will be dealt with by Premier
Christy Clark, and her new cabinet.

“The cost of government has been soaring”, stated BC Conservative Party regional director Alan
Forseth.  “In light of NO new budget coming down anytime soon, British Columbians would like to know what Finance Minister Kevin Falcon will do about provincial debt which is expected to hit
$60 billion within two years.  That is something which is not a joking matter.”

BC Conservatives are also continuing the call for an impartial and independent inquiry into the Basi / Virk situation; that call today put forward to new Attorney General Barry Penner.

“Let me remind the public”, Forseth stated,  “it was Attorney General of the day, Mike de Jong, who said that paying the defense fees (for the Basi / Virk lawyers) that contravened normal government policy.”

“We have another concern as well” said Mr. Forseth, “one especially important to residents living in the North Thompson, the Chilcotin, and the Fraser Nicola for example.  These are people outside of the provinces larger communities where public transportation is not readily available.

“We certainly understand there is nothing the province can do about political upheavals a world away, which have been causing fuel prices to steadily increase.  What however will Christy Clark do about the next increase to the Carbon Tax?  That does play directly into fuel costs, and for starters she should be calling a stop to that.”

Other than Christy Clark, there has been no major change to the key caucus members that stood shoulder to shoulder with Gordon Campbell through one failure and humiliation after the
other over the past two years.  Given that, how will she deal with what has been a serious lack of accountability to voters in BC.

“There is one thing that will truly bring about government accountability and responsibility – that will be a BC Conservative government in Victoria.  To that end, we look forward to the next general election expected for 2013”, concluded Forseth
