Swimming Pool opens on Stat Holidays

From the City of Williams Lake:

Residents are invited to come to the Cariboo Memorial Recreation Complex to enjoy the Fitness Centre and Sam Ketcham Pool on five statutory holidays, beginning on Wrestling Day, January 2, 2011.

At its regular meeting Nov. 9, City Council approved the Pool and Fitness Centre opening on Wrestling Day, Victoria Day, BC Day, Thanksgiving Day, and Remembrance Day. In order to please all patrons there will be a 3 Lane Recreational Swim from 12 noon – 1:30 p.m. and an Everyone Welcome Swim from 1:30 – 3:30 p.m. on each of the days.

“We’re pleased to offer a healthy, fun activity option for families on those days when they are not at work or school,” says Councillor Surinderpal Rathor, who holds the Recreation Service Portfolio. “Everyone is invited to take part in the fun at the Recreation Complex on these holidays.”

The Cariboo Memorial Recreation Complex will remain closed on New Year’s Day, Good Friday, Easter Monday, Canada Day, Labour Day, Christmas Day, and Boxing Day.

“Opening the pool and Fitness Centre on these statutory holidays means more opportunity for active living for residents,” says Director of Community Services Geoff Paynton. “Everyone is invited to take advantage of our recreation facilities throughout the entire year.”

The statutory holiday openings will run on a one-year trial basis.

"We want the community to make good use of the openings on these stat holidays," Rathor says. "We need a high level of participation for these openings to continue after one year."
